Once in orbit, John received a communication from some of his former contacts who, like him, parted from Reactive Sequence once they learned what the company was up to. They confirmed that Unity was cracking down on the corporation hard and fast, seizing assets and scrutinizing operations.

In addition to the more friendly communications John found a message from Kheeme, a former fellow co-scientist who had worked out who might be responsible for Unity’s pressure. Kheeme more or less sent a stereotypical villainous taunt threatening to use the bioweapons stored at an unspecified location on unsuspecting planets.

Most of the bases John knew about had already been hit, except the one on Kaanroid Prime. He didn’t know exactly where it was located but the name showed up in some of his own records as well as those uncovered throughout their adventures. So the crew set a course to try and track Kheeme down before she could activate and release the bioweapons.

During the crew’s investigations on the planet they overhear members of The Society of Honored Bones talking about creatures that overran their remove hunting lodge. Thinking records of the Society’s purchase might give them a lead, the group agrees to travel to the lodge and clear it out… and maybe poke around a bit before reporting back with their success.

The crew found the lodge overrun by sand runners - a species definitely not native to the planet - and after running them off searched the lodge and uncovered some paperwork suggesting they were purchased from an unnamed broker on the planet — that next lead they were looking for.
