John provided the location of the crew’s next mission — a mining facility run by Cobalt Industries deep out in the salt flats. But there was a minor hurdle problem. Due to union regulations all work was to be done by biological labor, a policy enforced by a scramble field set up around the facility. As a result Dozer would have to remain behind on the ship or risk having their circuits fried.
The facility was quiet, but when the crew arrived they spotted what remained of the mine’s labor force milling around suspiciously randomly. When Jshal tripped a proximity alert, the laborers suddenly rushed the group in a mindless fury, brandishing various dangerous mining implements as weapons. The crew was hesitant to open fire, not wanting to kill what might be innocents but the miners were uncommunicative and left them no other choice.
Afterwards the investigation of the facility as well as John’s examination of the miners revealed they had been victims of a biological attack. Specifically their food supplies, recently delivered from Vabenia E3, carried biological markers that John recognized.
The crew gave what information they could to Cobalt Industries - suppressing anything that would reveal Reactive Sequence’s involvement for fear of alerting them that the crew was on to them - and prepared to jump to Vabenia E3 to find proof of Reactive Sequence’s involvement.
